I’d love to invite you to join me for a very special retreat. It’s the only retreat I’ll be offering this year, which makes me all the more excited that it’s happening.
I’m looking forward to a wonderful time together. Beyond lots of handpan playing, this event is a chance to slow down, reconnect, and truly dive deeper into your musical journey – all in one of the most breathtaking and unwinding places I know: Schloss Elmau. Surrounded by beautiful nature and deep silence, it’s the perfect setting to let go, breathe, and rediscover music in a fresh and mindful way.
Music. Growth. Connection.
For me, teaching is never just about technique – it’s about supporting people in expressing something real and personal through their music. Whether you’ve just started playing or have been with the instrument for a while, I believe small shifts can open big doors. During the retreat, we’ll explore rhythm, patterns, flow, and improvisation – but always in a way that leaves space for playfulness, intuition, and those magical moments of shared music.
I teach from experience, not from rules. My approach is hands-on, heart-open, and free of pressure. You don’t have to prove anything here – just bring your curiosity and your love for the sound of the handpan.
I’m really looking forward to holding that space with you.
With love, Malte

What to expect
Throughout the retreat, we will explore different aspects of handpan playing:
Grooves & rhythms: Finding flow and ease in your playing
Patterns & structure: Understanding how melodies and rhythms connect
Expression: Bringing more emotion and personality into your music
Improvisation & composition: Exploring your own musical ideas and creativity
Jamming & playing together: Enjoying the joy of music in a group setting
Stroke techniques: Simple yet effective ways to refine your touch and sound
Who is this retreat for
It's for anyone with some experience playing the handpan (Beginner+ to Intermediate) who wants to explore their musical journey in an inspiring and supportive atmosphere. You don’t need to be perfect – just open to learning, exploring, and enjoying the music.
